Another important aspect to think about when redoing your bathroom is adequate lighting. Harnessing the natural light from a window will do wonders in brightening the room. The use of etched or frosted glass on a window gives both privacy and style. There must also be ample artificial lighting for applying make-up. The use of overhead lights with soft lighting from the side is practical and will enhance the bathroom’s look. Go with the trend. Some people are into buying “eco-friendly” houses. If you can’t afford that right away, you can start with an eco-friendly bathroom. Put in appropriate indoor plants to your bathroom to bring in oxygen and “nature” inside. Green is in! Lessen the scrubbing job by installing solid plastic shower stalls which are easier to clean and have several styles to select from.

WELS(水効率規制システム)との成果はどうでしょうか。

- Decide what kind of remodeling you intend to do with your bathroom. Is is just a cosmetic change or are there structural changes? If you just want to re arrange some of your bathroom’s features, it would be easier than say, tearing up another room to convert it into a bigger bathroom.
- Will the whole family be using that bathroom or just the occupants of the particular room where the bathroom is located?
After having done that, now, you will know if you will be doing it yourself or if you are going to hire professionals to do it. Think of the kind of fixtures you want installed, the brand, color and make. Come up with exact specifications especially if a contractor is doing it. It is wise to use money, energy and space saving materials in your bathroom. Are the light bulbs you are going to use still the incandescent types or the new energy saving ones? Are the taps to be used water savers? How do they rate with the WELS (Water Efficiency Rating System)? Make sure the flooring tiles you are going to use are the non slip ones to ensure safety. Do some math to come up with the figure you will be spending on such an “expedition”. Does the sum need outside help(is financing required)? or will my personal savings suffice? If your budget allows, put up a mini stereo set and an LCD screen. That’s some room! Now, prepare your house for the renovation professionals’ coming! Get rid of the things you don’t want to use in your new bathroom. Things you use everyday should be kept within easy reach. Since you can’t use your bathroom while it is being renovated, ask your contractor if they have a portalet you can use.

If there’s only one thing you can afford to replace in your bathroom, I would suggest it would be your toilet. If you haven’t renovated your bathroom since you bought it 10 years ago, chances are you’re still using a toilet that uses as much as 5 gallons or 19 liters per flush. In a normal household, that means an average daily water use of twenty-four gallons of water, a lot of water that is being wasted! Most new toilets now require only 6 liters to flush. Some newer toilets require just 4 liters.
Today’s newer toilets have been redesigned with stronger siphonic action and higher water velocity. These design changes enable them to have efficient flushing action while using just 6 or 4 liters of water. While it may cost a little bit more expensive than the old ones, it’ll pay for itself in water savings. You can save as much as 30% in indoor water use, and save you about a hundred dollars a year. You not only save money, you’re saving the environment as well.
